Overcoming Adversity

Eve knows how it feels to be without hope, raised in an abusive, alcoholic home. Her father was a raging alcoholic who brutally beat her mother, Eve, and her siblings. Eve’s self-esteem and belief in herself were eroding. It was her mother, Dorothy, who emphasized the importance of never giving up and overcoming adversity. Eve’s passion is to inspire others along the road to recovery from such traumas through her motivational presentations.  Eve’s most popular speeches.

Eve’s Early Successes

Before Eve’s Stroke in 2006, Eve had a very active life. She was a Jazz and Blues singer performing at various venues. Listen to some of Eve’s music. Eve was also a motivational speaker who hosted a weekly radio talk show. In addition, she worked on short stories and plays, writing, acting, and producing. At the time of her stroke, Eve was in the middle of finishing two scripts.

The Stroke that Changed Eve’s Life

The silent battering brought on by the stroke changed Eve’s life as she knew it and left her an aphasia victim. Aphasia is a condition that robs a person of the ability to communicate, usually brought on by a stroke or head injury. Eve went from having an excellent vocabulary to not being able to communicate. She felt like a different person entirely. This was when she happened to be at her lowest. She had tried working with a speech therapist before, with little or no results. So she thought this is it, this is the best I will ever be. Being a victim of aphasia stayed with her until she finally got the help she needed. Eve’s speech still shows some evidence of the stroke but she speaks from the heart. She knows how it feels to be without hope. Eve documented her recovery in her book, Stroke and the Journey Back.
